No Time to Waste, a Plea to save funding to Planned Parenthood

Whether you are pro-life or pro-women's rights, no one can deny that Planned Parenthood treats millions of women and children per year who may othewise have little or no access to medical care. They can gain this medical care through government funding. There was a bill proposed in 2009 which failed. The Pence Amendment was voted on to stop all federal funding for Planned Parenthood and it failed to go through. Their hopes were to cut funding to all services in order to fight abortion. The bill has been reopened for voting this week!

Just last month there were several videos released to the media about a pro-life group which ran a sting operation. They caught several employees of Planned Parenthood abusing the government funding by assisting human traffickers in getting underage abortions among many other illegal atrocities. All of these employees were immediately fired.

I do not deny that what they did was wrong but cutting ALL federal funding is not the answer. These pro-life groups are using this as an opportunity to solve a totally different battle. There is a totally different problem here than funding. The problem is in the employees and Planned Parenthood is taking actions.

I also feel that any undercover operations should be handled by the authorities and not groups with any bias or agenda. The possibility for editing to favor their movement and the actions of their participants should most definitely be scrutinized. I believe that there were other parts of those videos not reported which do show empoyees upholding the laws and acting with ethics and standards adherent to the Planned Parenthood Organization.

There should be a policing of Planned Parenthood just as every agency recieving government funding. In the mean time they can not stop funding. It would make these atrocities even worse for effecting an extraordinarily larger number of people in a negative way.

Call and be counted. Tell your Representative how you feel. Tell facebook and spead the word.

  1. Oh dear, Kristina. I've enjoyed getting to know you in the blogging world and have truly appreciated your support of my humble blog, but I just can't support you on this issue. I do not think our government belongs in the abortion business. It's bad enough that our government has embraced the concept of abortion, but it's wrong for them to expect me to fund it. I'm with Mike Pence on this one. All the way.

  2. Your opinion and thoughts are always welcome here. I just don't think we have to make everyone suffer for the mistakes of few. As far as the abortions themselves they are only a piece of the many services that they offer the public, which would be cut. All of their other services would also lose funding.

  3. If abortion was the only business of Planned Parenthood, I might see Linda's point. But Planned Parenthood exists (from what I understand) to advise people on options and assist with providing help when it is needed. We hear the stories about abortions, but we never hear about all of the people who were spared STDs and unplanned pregnancies thanks to Planned Parenthood. And what about the young moms who walked into Planned Parenthood planning an abortion but changed their minds based on what they learned there?

  4. While I agree on federal funding for some health care, especially for underprivileged, I have to agree with Linda that I don't think it has a place in funding abortions. Education, presenting options, treating health issues are all extremely important, but performing abortions, for me, is where I draw the line. Important and controversial topic. An open line of communication and discussion is how we resolve the issue!

  5. If he really cared he would have proposed a plan to pull funding to abortions only. There is too large a number of people who utilize other services. They offer so much to women and children far beyond abortion.

  6. I agree with Travel Nurse. Pull funding for that option only but not for everything. Is that possible, though? Maybe they could just require each center allocate government funding only to certain things and force them to provide proof of that if audited.

  7. Planned Parenthood has done well by me. When I had no insurance they were the only place I could afford to go. I will always support them.

  8. The sad part is Mami, they have already voted and lost all their funding. Its sad to me but worse than that, there are funds from the government that go to such waste and poor choices. When Planned Parenthood has a true humanitarian cause.
